Matthew McConaughey Inspirational Speech: Look Up, Look Forward, and Chase

There’s a few things, about three things to my count that I need each day. One I need something to look up to, another something to look forward to, and another is someone to chase.

Now first off I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or of any human hand. He has shown me that it is a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton, who said “When you got God, you got a friend, and that friend is you” To my family, that’s who and what I look forward to. To my Father who I know he is up there right now with a big pot of gumbo. He has got a lemon meringue pie over there, he is probably in his underwear and he has got a cold can of Miller Lite, he is dancing right now. To you Dad, you taught me what it means to be a man. To my Mother who is here tonight, who taught me and my two older brothers, demanded that we respect ourselves. And what we in turn learned was t…

Happy Holidays 2016!

One of my favorite things about the holidays is holiday parties. You get to spend time with your friends and family, relax, dress up, and enjoy good food. And of course there are presents involved. Here is my rounds of holiday parties in 2016!
BBAGC 12/10 at Hakassan in San Francisco This was Andy’s ventures holiday party, and it was a small, but close group of people that enjoyed good drinks, food, and we had some great speeches from everyone!
Fantastic Toastmasters 12/17 at Sakoon in Fremont I love my fellow toastmasters. I have been going to this club for a few years and I have met such amazing people! Usually, we do a holiday theme meeting with pot luck. This year, we decided to go have a nice lunch after the meeting and it was so good to connect with people I see every week over a meal!
Covisint 12/21 in San Francisco Our recruiter / office manager did such a good job coordinating quite a few activities for the holiday season! We decorated the office as a team which was super fun…

Early Morning Routine

I have read so many articles and even a book about early morning routines and starting the day right to have a successful full day, but I have had such a tough time putting it in practice on a daily basis. Mostly because of my schedule with work where some days I have to be at work by 8 am and some days I don't get in till 9:30 for meetings. Also, the one hour commute each way doesn't help with having a impactful morning routine. Also, evenings composed of work, social activities, learning stuff, working out, etc. is an inhibiting factor to early morning routine. All these are just EXCUSES. I know, as well as anyone else, that if you really want to do something, you can make it happen with proper planning and adequate execution.
See mornings are the most important because it sets the tone of your day. On many occasions, I have stayed in bed and not done much, and I had a reasonably productive and good day. However, on the few more than I give myself credit for, I have woken …

Day 30 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Carpe Diem!
30 days of happiness challenge complete! It was a good experience to do this. It was much more exciting at the beginning, and felt like a chore on some days, but I consistently reminded myself why I was doing this, and was able to commit to completing each challenge. It was definitely worth it, and made a difference in helping me refocus when my mind was wandering, and put certain things in perspective.
I have some amazing friends who supported me in the challenge, including asking me about how it’s going / what’s the challenge for the day on daily basis, being engaged when I needed their help in completing a challenge.
I built my own 30 Day happiness challenge by compiling a few of them together, and I purposed put ‘Carpe Diem’ as the last challenge. Everyone knows about Carpe Diem, it’s ‘Seize the Day’, but I think this phrase is overused in conversations, but under utilized in practice. The origin of this Latin phrase is from a poem from Quintus Horatius Flac…

Day 29 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Do something charitable and Enjoy your birthday!
For something charitable, I made multiple different donations.
I had started this challenge as my doing something special with last 30 days of being 25. It was definitely a good transition into being 26.
I still can’t believe I am 26 years old now. Time truly flies, and I still remember all the years like it was yesterday. Everyone says it’s now over the 25 hump, and I should truly feel like an adult now. But, I have felt like an adult since I was 19 years old because I have been living on my own, working professionally, and living like I am 30 years old. Age has always been an interesting topic for me. I get mixed compliments because a lot of people compliment me on my looks and think I am 18-20  years old, and a lot of people compliment me on my success and maturity level and think I am 32-34 years old.  Because of life experiences, I definitely grew up too fast at a very young age, but I am completely happy with how my life…

Day 28 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Take a long walk and Share your goals with your friends
This was a perfectly timed because I usually set or renew goals couple times a year (new year, birthday, etc.) and tomorrow is my birthday, so this tied together well. Last time I did this was in June of 2014, which was my Identity post. Here is the updated version of my goals I am sharing:
Career: I am going to continue down the business strategy and operations leadership path. I have done a lot in my career at a young age, and I know I have a lot more to do, so I am taking it as it comes. I am mostly focused on operations right now, and I want to continue that, but focus on driving business growth, while maintaining operations.
Toastmasters Journey Towards DTM: I have been attending toastmasters for a year now and have completed my CC and CL. I have quite a few certifications to go before I can get my DTM. I am really enjoy going to toastmasters every week, meeting new people, building relationships, doing speeches, …

Day 27 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Find another negative thought and replace it with a positive one
Negative thought: This is my  second night in the new house, but first night all by myself so I feel a bit alone.
Positive thought: It's a new place, so I am feeling a bit uncomfortable. Over some time it will be more comfortable. It's already all set up and feels cozy, so just have to get use to the big house feeling.

Day 26 of 30 Days Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Take 5 minutes to enjoy the present moment and Make some 'me' time
It was impossible to make ‘me’ time today since I was moving. I am super organized, so the move went very smooth. I am really excited for the large backyard that is part of the house, so I spent some time just sitting in the grass and enjoying the weather as well as nature, and specially playing with Tikal in the large backyard. This was my few minutes of enjoying the present moment in the new house and looking forward to making this my new home.

Day 25 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: 15 minutes of cardio and Ask a friend your strengths
I went to lunch with Richard and we walked to Baja Fresh, so I got a good 20 minutes to walking done, and I have been running around packing tonight because tomorrow is the move day.

I asked few of my friends what my strengths are and here is the compilation:
Justin C: Persistent, Organized, Caring, Smart, Strong Sarcasm, Cute, Funny, and Self-confidentRichard S: Consistent, Self-aware, and Limitless PotentialPranav N: Energy, Determined, and LoyalMani L: Great sense of responsibility, Effective communicator, Good interpersonal skills, Good at divide and conquer approach, Focused and still, Exploring/learning, Balanced most of the time as in you don’t tend too get ahead of yourselfKim S: Self-motivated, Decisive, and LoyalKhin P: Communication, you tend to help translate English to English among friends and at work I am so happy with this exercise for couple reasons. Day 23 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Compliment yourself and Eat/drink healthy today
I complimented myself on being able to focus and get things done.
I use My Fitness Pal app to track my calorie intake, not because I am trying to lose weight, but because I am trying to maintain a healthy eating style. Today, I had my usual coffee in the morning. I have been eating Vitality Bowl for lunch these days because of Pranav, but didn’t want that today. I ate a Burrito Bowl from Chipotle with rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, source cream, corn, and hot sauce. I had some hummus and chips as snacks before Zumba, and had some fruit after Zumba. I have been eating/drinking healthy for a while. I just need to continue on that effort. It definitely contributes to feeling good physically, which impacts mental health as well.

Day 22 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Compliment a stranger and Add some fun and laughter
I complimented a lady on her shoes when I made a quick run to Safeway to pick up some groceries.
To add some laughter, I watched a few Russell Peter clips. He is my favorite comedian, and I have been all of his shows in Netflix and all his videos on YouTube. I usually go see him live every year. I bought two tickets for his show in San Jose on 11/14 months in advance, but I missed it because I was traveling in November and got back home the day of the show. My two friends went instead and absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to go see him live this year!

Day 21 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Meditate for 15 minutes and Write down 10 positive words about you
I woke up this morning and meditated first thing in the morning. For some reason, I have been waking up at 4 am everyday, and end up falling asleep after an hour or so, then wake up at a normal time very tired. I think it’s a combination of the upcoming move, and my phone buzzing all night. My goal is to sleep from around 11:30 pm to around 6:30 am. I need to work on getting into that rhythm.
10 positive words about you: Empowered AbleCharismaticResilient Harmonious InspirationalProgressive SimpleVibrant Mindful

Day 20 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Do 1 thing for yourself you have been meaning to do and Offer your time
I have been meaning to make a few of the dishes that I always pin on Pintrest. Since we had a cook off party with all our friends, I made two dishes I have been contemplating for a while. I offered my time to some toastmaster members to help them with their speeches.

Day 19 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: 15 minutes of cardio and Visit a new place
I got my 15 mins of cardio in every day walking and I visited a new club in San Jose (Temple). I have to the one in downtown San Francisco, but this one was new to me. It wasn't that great, so we ended up going to Myth in San Jose, which is always fun.

Day 18 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while and Think and speak positively
I reached out to few old coworkers as I am helping our recruiter fill the Director of Marketing role. It’s been really hard to find someone that fits the required skills and qualification. We have been trying to fill this role for few months now.
It was a great day today. The weather was about 70 degrees. We had Indian buffet for lunch, got some decent work done, and am looking forward to the party tonight. The day overall was spent laughing a lot with coworkers and friends, which is always positive. I am excited for the weekend because it’s going to be beautiful weather (~75 degrees all weekend) and I have the whole weekend full of fun and social activities. What’s even better is that I finished all my errands during week as well as cleaning/packing for next weekend’s move. I can’t wait to move into the new house with the big backyard considering spring is around the corner.

Day 17 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Write down 5 things you excel at and 10 minutes of chill out (headspace)
I am so glad I did headspace meditation. I have tried the headspace meditation thing based on someone’s recommendation multiple times, and I couldn't do it. This was the first time I actually completed a full session. I am glad I got to fully relax through this. I have been active with a lot of things and it’s my only free evening until almost ten days from now.
5 things I excel at: Being active in many different areas. Being objective and direct. Being future oriented. Being ambitious and driven. Being committed.

Day 16 of 30 Days of Happiness Challenge

Challenge: Write down one thing you think you can't do and Walk 10,000 steps

I took few mini walks today, but finally accumulated to 10,00 steps (1 mile) throughout the day. I also had my Zumba class, which was great! It was a sub teacher, so I wasn't looking forward to it, but she had a smile on her face the whole time, and had amazing energy. I got an awesome workout, got to dance to some great songs, and met some new people.

I was thinking all day about what I can't do, and then it hit me. I have always created a glass ceiling in my head about how I can't be a dance teacher, but it's simple a mental limitation. Laarni (main instructor) lets me lead dances, and three people complimented me today that I should be a Zumba teacher because I am a great dancer and have a great body. I have contemplated on taking intensive dance courses, and doing the Zumba instructor certification class, and I am gearing it up to do that soon. It's very exciting considering how muc…

Day 15 of 30 Days of Happiness

Challenge: Be nice to yourself today and swap tv for meaningful time
This is another interesting challenge as I couldn't formulate what ‘be nice to yourself’ meant, so I did some research in the morning, and here is what I came up with from numerous sources: Listen to your body. Just be. We are human beings, not human doings. Trust the process.Be open to change. Pay attention to your internal dialogue. Feel your feelings. Reframe challenges. Find solutions.Lower your expectations. Seek solitude. Connect with nature. Read something inspirational.Take a bath / go for a walk. Drink some tea and read a magazine.Encourage yourself. Give. Listen and allow. Laugh.Meditate.Take a bath / get a massage.I took a nice bath, read my Women's Health Magazine, enjoyed solitude, cleaned (I find this therapeutic), watched a few YouTube videos to laugh, practiced the Piano, and just relaxed! I also ate nearly 2,000 calories today, so I was so happy!
Like I mentioned yesterday, I usually watch an e…
